No-Pain Deep Tissue Bodywork: The Youniversoul Alternative to
Medical Massage Therapy & Trauma Recovery
You Can Transform Your Experience of "Trauma"
Have you had or witnessed ANY accidents (including falls, car, bike, or boat accidents, etc.)?
Have you had or witnessed ANY physical injuries (including muscle sprain/strain, repetitive motion injury, etc.)?
Have you had ANY past surgeries (including oral) or hospitalization? Have you experienced miscarriage or
other terminated pregnancy?
Have you had (or are you currently experiencing) any physically or emotionally stressful events (e.g.,
loss/grief, traumatic event, daily commute, etc.)?
Have you been diagnosed with any physical or emotional chronic pain, stress, anxiety, tension, etc.?
How do you remember the Oklahoma City bombing, the Colombine massacre, or September 11, 2001 tragedy?
What happens when you think about John F. Kennedy's death?
Have you been impacted by a wildfire, earthquake, or other natural disaster? Has someone you know
recently died, divorced or married, or moved away?
Since these events (or even when recalling them), do you find yourself crying, angry, and/or fatigued
"for no reason"? Do you feel mentally distracted or distant? Do you ever feel hopeless, helpless, powerless?
These and many other life situations can produce the symptoms of "trauma".
"Trauma" Simply Means System Overload
The term “trauma” encompasses a wide range of situations, from the “severe”
(such as abuse or victimization), to the “everyday” (such as auto accidents or chronic stress or pain).
Traumatic symptoms can result whenever the nervous system is overwhelmed and cannot process or
integrate the situation. Losing a job or a loved one, receiving distressing news, a long daily
commute, working in stressful environment, even a "joyful" experience such as the birth of a child,
can send your system into overwhelm, resulting in traumatic symptoms.

Traumatic symptoms such as crying, shaking, and "checking out" are a natural part of the overloaded
system trying to correct itself. But sometimes the system is not able to self-correct, and the
symptoms can become chronic. Over time, these chronic states can alter the cellular information in
the body, the nervous system's reactions, and the information processing pathways in the brain.
Memories, emotions, muscular tension and pain, nervous system energy, and subtle energy associated
with the event can become "stuck" and "hardwired" in the brain and the body. It is now known that,
even when there was no blood or bruise, the impact of the original trauma can be held in the body
for decades after the event. For instance, one body researcher asserts that chronic neck or back
pain with depression may be caused by undiagnosed whiplash from a past "minor" car accident many
years before.
"Trauma" is Not One-Size-Fits-All
Each person has a unique process for responding to situations in life; it is that process,
not the situation itself, that determines if the person’s experience was “traumatic”.
Your history, your personality, your brain chemistry, your natural resilience, your environment,
and other factors combine to determine your response to a "traumatic" situation. This is why one
person may have on-going traumatic-stress symptoms after a car accident or "getting yelled at by
the boss", while another person in the same situation has little or no residual effects.
Over Time, Chronic Trauma Symptoms Degrade Your Quality of Life
When the overloaded system does not complete its self-correction process at or near the time of the
event, the trauma symptoms can become "hardwired" in the body-mind system. The affected areas of the body,
brain, and energy systems become (literally and figuratively) tight, rigid, and locked in the state at the
time of the event. The system becomes progressively less open to options and possibilities for ease
of movement, clarity of thought, and smooth release of emotion; strong, fluid connection between body,
mind, and energy is compromised.
Has your quality of life been reduced by trauma? Symptoms may include:
Experiencing recurrent physical, emotional, or energetic issues that
seem to have no cause;
“Freaking out” or “having a melt-down”, even when you know it doesn’t
make sense;
Feeling a sense of physical or emotional "numbness"; feeling like you’re
living on “auto-pilot”;
After years of psychotherapy, feeling that you get it in your head but
not in your body.
If you feel your quality of life is not what you want, perhaps your body/mind/spirit is
suffering the residual affects of trauma, i.e., your system has not been able to completely process
and integrate some past event. The body remembers what it's been through, and needs to unlock,
release, and heal in its own way.
Slow Treatment Helps the System Heal Itself
A traumatized system cannot be forced to change or transform. I do not apply force, pressure,
or sudden movement to physical, emotional, or energetic body. Instead, listen and follow how your body wants to move toward maximum comfort. Where there is resistance, I wait; where there is comfort, safety, and ease, I continue.
Since the physical, mental, emotional, and energetic bodies were involved in the original trauma-inducing
incident, these aspects are simultaneously engaged in my trauma recovery work. I use:
slow, precise, and focused movement of your physical body,
attunement to your emotional and energetic body, and
verbal communication (talking with you),
to ensure that you are not "re-traumatized" (i.e., suddenly experiencing uncontrolled overwhelm) during the
treatment.
In completion, I guide you through several minutes of sitting, standing, and walking -- integrating and anchoring the
changes that have happened in the session. We then discuss ways in which you can continue this process at home, and decide together
when we will next meet.
Working in this manner lets you feel, for example, trapped energy or emotions at the site of a past injury.
Simultaneously, your mind and body can begin to process the residual effects of the event. Ultimately, the
release/recovery process completes when the incident has integrated into your conscious memory as "something
that happened", instead of "something I can't get over". You are able to recreate your relationship with your
body, rediscover your creativity, and feel empowered to really live!
Note: This treatment is also designed to support your rehab regimen. The rehab exercises recommended by your doctor or physical
therapist will most likely become much easier and less painful to perform, and the positive results will likely occur
faster and last longer.
